The vision for Slough Central is to bring investment, community and activity to the town centre as part of a much-needed and long-awaited redevelopment of this site, creating a safe, welcoming place for everyone.
To achieve the vision for Slough Central, the masterplan is being guided by the following principles:
Increase confidence in Slough – after many years of promises, demonstrate that the transformation of this part of the town centre is really happening.
Inclusive community engagement – listen to the views and ideas of the Slough community to help shape the future of Slough Central.
Community – create a place for everyone to spend time in and enjoy.
Improved connectivity – provide safe, secure and attractive routes through the town centre.
Town centre environment – physically improve the town centre environment, inviting people and activity throughout the day and evening.
Rediscover the High Street – reinforce the existing High Street, providing high-quality, flexible new space for retail, restaurants and town centre uses.
An economic boost – generate greater footfall and spending from both locals and visitors.
Growth in the right place –provide high-density, mixed use development in the town centre as the most accessible part of Slough, encouraging more sustainable modes of travel.
New homes – deliver high-quality homes in a convenient, central location, contributing to the Council’s housing needs.
Economic recovery from Covid-19 – direct post-pandemic investment into the heart of Slough, creating long-lasting positive economic impacts and employment opportunities.
Employment and skills – support employment opportunities across a range of skill levels throughout construction and beyond.
Flexibility – adopt a flexible approach to the masterplan that allows Slough Central to respond to future requirements.

This Slough Central masterplan sets the vision for the regeneration of the Queensmere and Observatory shopping centre sites.
Due to the scale of the masterplan, the project will be delivered in a number of phases.
The first phase will comprise redevelopment of the Queensmere shopping centre and this will be the focus of the first planning application in Autumn 2021.
Our approach to this application and forthcoming applications is detailed in the ‘Planning & Timeline’ tab.
